1.      Would you watch the rest of the thriller?

I asked this question to see whether the audience found the thriller to be successful, interesting and worth watching. The majority of our respondents gave us a positive response.

2.      Was tension created throughout?

The thriller aimed to build tension so to see whether it worked, I asked this question. Only 10 out of the 20 participants found it to be tense. This may have been because it was only towards the end of the opening two minutes the tension was built.

3.      On a scale of 1 to 10 how entertaining was it?

The majority of participants voted that it was a 7 out of 10 rating, with ten being the highest. This may have been because tension wasn’t created from the start, therefore giving less appeal to the audience.

4.      On a scale of 1 to 10 how appropriate was the background music?

The majority of respondents thought that the background music was appropriate as it helped build tension and fitted in well with the timing of the shots.
5.      Was the font appropriate for the thriller?

14 out of 20 respondents thought that the font used in the credits were appropriate. The reason that others may have disagreed could have been due to the colour as it was white, which usually suggests innocence. Also, the font looked formal and less daunting.

6.      Did the order of the shots make sense?

All twenty participants thought that the shots were in the right order as they made sense. This was down to the second attempt of editing, ensuring that the flows of shots were constant and in order.

7.      Was our thriller similar to any other thrillers you have seen?

This question was only asked to see whether the thriller was comparable to other thrillers, which could mean it was successful as it related to other thrillers. Whether the audience liked these thrillers or not would be another question.

8.      Was it a typical thriller in terms of the plot, characters and props?

17 out of 20 respondents said that they thought it was a typical thriller; this may have been because the villain in the opening sequence was male and the victim was a female. The death was with a gun which a stereotypical murdering weapon. The other three may have thought differently because the villain didn’t originally look like a hit man.

9.      On a scale of 1 to 10 how would you rate the editing?

As the graph shows, no one voted for a rating of 1, 2,3 or 4. This means that the editing was efficient enough, the shots transactions worked well and the order of the shots were correct.

10.  Did you like the plot and storyline?

Fifteen people found the storyline interesting, but five didn’t. This could have been because they hadn’t had chance to see the plot twist which was what makes the film more interesting later on.

11.  How did the music effect your emotions?

‘Edgey’ was the main response overall, even though the participents didn’t use this word in particular, this is what they meant. The reason for this may have been because of the sharp major notes used on the piano. ‘Saddened’ may have been because of the minor notes, ‘suspicious’ for the same reasons as the edgey feeling, and ‘nervous’ due to the anicipantion created due to the pauses between each chord.

12.  Could you connect to the characters?

The graph shows that thirteen people could connect with the characters. The seven that felt they couldn’t most likely felt distant from them due to the lack of knowledge about them and because the cast used weren’t actual actors.

13.  Was it a successful opening?

The majority of the votes were towards ‘yes,’ the ones who chose ‘no’ was probably because that the beginning looked like it was going nowhere but the end recovered it and gave more to the storyline.

14.  Was there a clear narrative?

Thirteen people said yes and seven said no, the reason people may have chosen no could have been because in the beginning, we were unsure what was going on in reference to Jack walking up the stairs and we didn’t know who he was, what he’s done and what he was doing until the end.

15.  On a scale of 1 to 10 how would you rate the lighting?

The lighting wasn’t too good in the film due to some of the shots being taken at night time, and also some of the inside shots were taken on a dull day so the lighting changed. The responses gathered reflect on this.
